The Big Apple
Washington is known worldwide for its apples, but did you know that the largest contiguous orchard in the United States is located right here in Walla Walla County? Broetje Orchards has over 4,300 acres stretching nearly 10 miles along the Snake River northwest of Eureka. We will tour the orchard and learn about the planting, growing, and harvesting of the fruit. We will also see their storage facility, which can hold over 500 million apples, and see the packing lines that grade, sort, and package the fruit that endsup all over the world. The Broetje operation is unique in the apple industry in that thefruit is grown, stored and packed at the same location.
